South Winneshiek Community Schools

The South Winneshiek Community School District serves approximately 700 students from Calmar, Festina, Ossian, Spillville, and surrounding areas in beautiful northeast Iowa. There are two school attendance centers: students in Early Childhood through grade eight are served in Ossian, and those in grades nine through twelve attend school in Calmar.

Northeast Iowa Community College - Calmar

Continuing education programs are marked by the three characteristics: versatility of program areas, delivery to a variety of locations, and flexibility of scheduling. Programs are developed and delivered in response to the educational needs of the people of the district. During a typical school year, there are over 50,000 enrollments in continuing education programs through the NICC district.

Continuing Education programs are structured for flexibility and are aimed at meeting the needs of the adult enrollees. The needs of the community are very important in the total process of program planning. Continuing Education programs vary in length from one hour seminars to programs of 240 hours in length. NICC cooperates with 26 local school districts to provide continuing education classes throughout the district. Continuing Education and Economic Development play a vital role in workforce development for the area, utilizing an integrated approach in serving the needs of business and industry.

Luther College - Decorah

Located in the small northeast Iowa town of Decorah, Luther College is an undergraduate liberal arts institution of about 2,600 students. The college is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Founded in 1861 by Norwegian immigrants, Luther offers more than 60 majors and pre-professional and certificate programs leading to the bachelor of arts degree.
